I'm sure you'll be seeing plenty of shorts from Bill Sebastian on here in the coming months. I'll definitely try to keep them spaced apart. This is his newest short, "Black Cats For Obama". Hopefully there will be one about voting for Obama in the general election on the horizon.

Breaking Records! - Death Cab For Cutie - Narrow Stairs
I must admit that I never cared much for Death Cab For Cutie. There were a couple of songs I really liked on 2003's Transatlanticism, and I actually think the Postal Service CD is pretty great. Most of their stuff, however, I could care less about. Death Cab's sixth album, Narrow Stairs, comes out May 13, but the first single has hit Amazon.com for digital download. This track is "I Will Possess Your Heart".

Don't Go To Best Buy! - New Wilco Song.
Obviously exclusive content available from a store that you hate (like IFC's recent deal with Blockbuster), is a call to most people to simply download things online, but I would like to point out that only the CD is exclusive. It's available on Zune and Amazon. Most importantly, given most of the names on this CD, you can get the Wilco track itself as a digital download from Amazon for 99cents.
Of course, I should also mention that The Jesus and Mary Chain have a new song on the album as well, their first one in 10 years. This is probably exciting to some people. The track is called "All Things Must Pass".
It should be noted that you can only get this digital release from Amazon and Zune, probably because of the whole NBC/Universal and Itunes dispute. Interesting that they're trading one evil giant corporation (Apple) for another (Best Buy).

Short Film Of The Day - 2008.03.18 - Rockfish
Rockfish is a 3D animated short from 2003 about a fishing trip on another planet that goes slightly awry. It's being adapted into a feature film, with the voice of the main character being supplied by Vin Diesel (who previously supplied the voice of The Iron Giant in 1999).
However, the main reason this short as on my mind is that it was recently announced that Director/Producer Tim Miller and his Blur Studio was going to be working on a new Heavy Metal feature film. You may have heard that David Fincher was going to be directing a segment.

Short Film Of The Day? - 2008.03.17
A lot of the time, I take on new things, half-expecting to end up dropping them. But, it's halfway through March, and I've kept up on all of the New Releases, so I think it's time to add another item.
I'm hoping to post up one short film for your viewing pleasure per day.
This film is called Spider.
Spider is from Australian director Nash Edgerton.
It has shown at AFI Fest, Sundance and SXSW.
It starts out slow, and you'll think it's not worth it to pay attention, but trust me, it is.
You can find out more info about the filmmakers at their website:
http://www.bluetonguefilms.com/
You can also purchase this film on Itunes.

New CD Releases - 2008.03.18
2008.03.18
Pick of the Week:
Devotchka - A Mad and Faithful Telling
The A.K.A.s (Are Everywhere!) - Everybody Make Some Noise!
While their press material features a lot of comments like "More incendiary than The Clash and as far left as the Gang of Four", I didn't find it to be that exactly. Still, if this counts as Punk Rock in 2008, I guess it's some of the best I've heard. And a cameo by Jello Biafra, no less.
Joseph Arthur - Could We Survive (EP)
I'm not generally a Joseph Arthur fan, but I like this EP. Apparently he is going to have 4 EPs out in preparation for a full length in August.
Be Your Own Pet - Get Awkward
Sera Cahoone - Only As The Day Is Long
Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles
Destroyer - Trouble In Dreams
Fuck Buttons - Street Horrrsing
Adam Green - Sixes & Sevens
Hush Sound - Goodbye Blues
The Kills - Midnight Boom
Daniel Lanois - Here is What Is
Lyrics Born - Everywhere At Once
The Matches - A Band In Hope
Mooney Suzuki - CBGB Masters - 6.29.01
I like the Mooney Suzuki, but I find it really exciting that CBGB's is beginning to release live CDs.
Yael Naim - ST
I need to spend some more time with this album. It's possible that this is the rightful pick of the week. Check this out for now, it's one of the few songs in English on this album.
Playradioplay! - Texas
Rustic Overtones - Light at the End
She & Him - Volume 1
This is the musical debut from M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel.
Switches - Lay Down The Law
The Teenagers - Reality Check
Toasters - CBGB Masters - 6.28.02
Virginia Coalition - Home This Year
John Zorn - Dreamers
I haven't gotten nearly enough time to spend with this CD. It sounds great so far. On guitar, the always great Marc Ribot. On keyboards, Jamie Saft, who I haven't heard enough from, but whose score for Murderball just floors me. On bass, Trevor Dunn of Mr. Bungle/Fantomas fame, and a trio of percussionists, Kenny Wollesen (Tom Waits, Sex Mob), Joey Baron (Naked City, Dave Douglas) and the great Brazilian percussionist Cyro Baptista.
This track is called Uluwati.
